The Maison du Parc

The Maison du Parc of the Brenne ( 10 km ), a most valuable information , tasting and local produce selling place.
Departure spot for many walks and bike rides throughout the Brenne, next to the Château of Bouchet overlooking the largest lake of the Park: the Red Sea lake, departure spot for many bike rides and walks

Walking is one of the most suitable ways for families of discovering the rich heritage of the Park with a moderate relief and a sound network of walking trails

RED SEA LAKE AND CHATEAU OF BOUCHET

This private lake owes its name to a prince from Bouchet, Aimery Sénébaud, who took part in the seventh crusade to the Holy Land and was held prisoner near the Red Sea. With its 160 ha, it is the largest lake in the Brenne and it takes about one month to empty it all out. Then around 15 to 20 tons of fish are fished out. You can walk alongside it for 800m on the communal path; Every year, there is a pilgrimage to Notre Dame de la Mer chapel hidden by a wall on a peninsula in its south point.
Discovered in the 13th century by Aimery Sénébaud in the hollow of an oak, the Virgin Mary was burnt during the religious wars to be replaced in 1650. Stolen afterwards, there was another replacement copy made kept in Rosnay church which they only get out on pilgrimage day.

THE CHATEAU OF BOUCHET

Built on a red rock bed, this impressive medieval fortress, occupied by the English during the Hundred Year war was restored in the 15th and 17th centuries. It boasts beautiful furniture and family portraits from Berry in the dining room, namely one of the Marchioness of Montespan, Louis XIII’s trunks and hunting trophies.
From the dungeon to the terrace, you will enjoy a panoramic view over the Brenne and the Red Sea Lake especially.
Lake fishing takes place every year from November to February Lakes are emptied out then spectacular tons of fraying fish will be fished out in large nets just before your eyes.

Les pêches d’étangs ont lieu chaque année de la Toussaint à Février ; les étangs sont vidés puis les filets permettront de rassembler de spectaculaires tonnes de poissons qui frétilleront sous vos yeux.

CHÉRINE NATURE RESERVE (8 km )

Created back in 1985 and located in the heart of the Brenne, Chérine nature reserve belongs to the Indre county council with the active contribution of WWWF France, its mission is to preserve the biodiversity of species and their habitat.

The reserve boasts several lakes serving as hábitat for nesting and shore birds, and amphibians

Stretching over 145 ha, Chérine Nature reserve hosts about half of the Brenne’s plant species as well as 2/3 of invertebrate fauna.
To be able to observe the Cistude lake’s fauna and flora, you need to go to the Maison de la Nature where you will find guides et observatories allowing you a dual scientific and nature discovery

ACCESS TO THE RESERVE :

Chérine Nature Reserve is located in Saint Michel en Brenne, in Indre county, more exactly in the heart of the Brenne Regional Nature Park.
It is easy to get to from the road D17 connecting Mézières en Brenne to Rosnay .

THE GREEN TRAIL ( 3 km )

The Green trail ( 3 km, in Pouligny Saint Pierre ) " extract from the Brenne CC site - Val de Creuse"

Its itinerary of more than 70 kms is exclusively reserved to cyclists and pedestrians. It was set up on former railway tracks and most of the trail goes alongside the Valley of the Creuse where you will be peaceful and charmed by varied scenic landscapes.

Several information panels have been installed alongside the trail allowing you to find your bearings where ever you are on the itinerary and to find exceptional places and monuments.

Its railway past makes it easily accessible with lots of villages along the way and hardly any slope Therefore you can have regular breaks in the villages you will cycle through where numerous services are available such as shops, bike rentals, information panels...).

The Green trail allows you to discover a rich and varied heritage and wilderness in an unusual way.

ANGLES SUR L'ANGLIN ( 15 km )

Angles sur l'Anglin boasts "the most beautiful villages in France" with "2 Flowers" in the category of Well Flourished villages. Moreover, its medieval streets still bear witness to its rich historical past.

You will be able to discover Angles sur l'Anglin as early as pre-historic times, namely with the most important in Europe Magdalenian sculptures, (The sorcerer’s rock) discovered in the village and dating back to 15000 years.

Come and wander through this unusual well flourished village to discover all its charming curiosities:
The Arceau, the Cueille, The English trench, the Huche Corne, The Cardinal’s home the Balue, the splendid château from the 11th and 15th century, the Sainte Croix chapel(remains of a monastery built in the 9th century), the Ville Basse cemetery with its 15th century burial cross and the Jours d'Angles (sumptuous handmade embroideries and their "Maison des Jours"...
